The raw material for the production of polylactic acid fiber (PLA) is lactic acid, which is prepared from corn starch, so this fiber is also called corn fiber, and can be made from sugar beets or grains by glucose fermentation to reduce the cost of preparing lactic acid polymerization. Polylactic acid with high molecular weight can be obtained by chemical polymerization of lactic acid cyclodimer or direct polymerization of lactic acid. The products obtained from polylactic acid have good biocompatibility and bioabsorbability, as well as antibacterial and flame retardant properties, and PLA has the best heat resistance among degradable thermoplastic polymer materials.
Because PLA fiber has good heat resistance, it can be made into filament, short filament, monofilament and nonwoven products like ordinary PET fiber. The device does not need to make major changes to produce woven fabrics, straps, non-woven fabrics, etc. In addition, although PLA fiber is poor in water absorption, it has good water dispersion, such as blending with cotton, and can be made into sweat-absorbing and quick-drying composite materials. As a non-woven fiber material, it has good feel, drape and resilience, excellent crimp and crimp stability, and can control shrinkage.
